Lixian Orphanage (suburbs of Beijing) – (April 2001)

This center that lodges children in difficulty is situated in the countryside, an hour away from Beijing.
As all structures of this type, it is administrated by the local Bureau of Civil Affairs. Its aim is to welcome approximately 150 children per day who have family problems such as the departure, death or imprisonment of a parent or children who have been arrested for vagrancy. It also welcomes children who have a slight handicap and have been left to one side by their families.
The center acts mainly as a school since the children are taken care of by foster families outside school hours.
The place is Spartan and equipments is minimal.
In collaboration with enterprises in Beijing, CNB participated in the financing of the renovation of the site, principally the paving of the playground, the restoration of the refectory and the showers and the whitewashing of the schoolrooms and the two small dormitories for the new children who do not yet have foster families.
