School for blind and deaf children (Kunming, Yunnan) – (December 2002)

This boarding school has approximately 300 children from 6 to 10 years old and 50 from 11 to 15 years old, they all have a handicap and come from the mountain villages nearby. Owing to an extremely small budget and the high cost of books in Braille which are indispensable, the school library has very few so-called “ordinary” books.

Xia Qingxi (a voluntary worker) visited the place and met the Head of the School to show him the CNB projects and actions.
After having made an inventory of the library, the decision was taken to donate a new collection of books comprising novels for the young, technical and scientific books and books on art with subjects such as painting and manual work. In total 250 books were donated to the children during a ceremony which took place on January 12th, 2003.
